Foreign Aid - Our Obligation to Help the Less Fortunate Essay example -

Ã‚  Ã‚     What is absolute poverty?   According to Robert McNamara it is "life at the very margin of existence" (Singer 219).   It is a life that, if not ended by early death, causes a kind of misery unseen to those living in the United States.   Compared to the estimated 1.2 billion people, worldwide living in poverty, those of us in developed countries experience a life of luxury.   The things that we take for granted, such as cars, computers, microwaves, and televisions, are extravagant items that most people living in extreme economic poverty will never see. The gap between the affluent and the poverty-stricken is wide, and is getting even wider in many areas of the world. Are we morally obligated to help those less fortunate than ourselves?   Should we merely go about our daily lives, forgetting about those on the other side of the world who are dying of malnutrition?   These are just a few of the questions that I am about to explore.    The fact that there is absolute poverty in the world cannot be argued. The way we deal with this is the issue at hand. When observing the raw data, including the high infant mortality rates and low life expectancy statistics afflicting impoverished countries, one cannot help but pity these people.   Unfortunately, when it comes down to actually taking action and deciding what to give up, we seem to feel just as much, if not more, pity for ourselves. Many reasons have been given for why we may not be obligated to give up portions of our wealth to help those in need.   Fortunately, in my opinion, many of these arguments can be refuted.    One such argument is that we do not have an obligation to assist the poor because of our own individual property rights.   Robert ... ...oals are attainable if we work together, and as individuals, to make things happen.   If one person feels that it is possible to give more without sacrificing something of equal moral significance, I believe they should make an internal commitment to do so.    Works Cited Brown, Mark Mallock.   "Halving the World's Population is a Realistic Goal."   21 September 2000.   Online: http://www.globalpolicy.org/socecon/develop/mbrown2.htm. Main Stages of Child and Young Person Development Essay

Development skills can often be divided into categories such as emotional, social, physical etc. but all the different type of skill link together and help people to complete an activity, for example playing football needs physical skills for good balance and running, social and communication skills as you have to work as part of a team and intellectual skills for working out tactics as well as many more of the development skills. Building on these skills influences a child or young person to grow to become independent, more confident and to have the ability to socialize. The more skills needed the more interested a child or young person may be in a specific activity especially when they get older and enjoy being slightly challenged. An example of how a child may be affected because of a delayed development in one of the areas is a child with speech problems such as an speech impediment, this will have delayed her communication skills. This then may have affected their intellectual skills slowing her process of learning to read and write. It also may affect her social development as their may find it difficult to communicate with others and they may not understand her and may start to ignore her. The child may them feel frustrated and lonely effecting their emotional development. All these are led from having a delayed communication development due to their speech impediment. Another example is a child with a physical disability, their physical development may not be to the normal standard so they may not be able to join in with certain activities other children can. This could affect their emotional development as they may feel left out but also their social development as they can’t interact with other children when not joining in with an activity. If the physical disability is noticeable they may feel embarrassed which also with effect their emotional development and other children may not understand and think the child is different so they might not want to interact with that child which would then effect their social and emotional development as well.

There are quite a few differences that I could find,...

There are quite a few differences that I could find, between the Bible accounts and The Ten Commandments movie about Moses and his life. First is the difference in the Bible story of Moses’ life and the movie version. For example, the Bible never says anything about Moses’s time as a young adult, perhaps because it was not significant enough. And there is about a forty year gap in the Bible and the movie fills some of that in. We really don’t know if the Pharaoh loved him as much as he did in the movie, I guess it is possible though. We also don’t really know if Moses was ever in love before Sephora, because there is no evidence in the Bible for Nefritiri, or any princess in line for the throne. Also in the movie it shows Moses†¦show more content†¦In the Bible, God declares the tenth plague by Himself and not by sending the â€Å"Angel of Death† like is seen in the movie. Another difference between the film and the Bible, the first P assover night, there is a crescent moon seen in the sky. But Passover always begins in the middle of the month when there is a full moon. In the Bible, the Ten Commandments were heard by everyone in the country. But in the movie, it is shown as if only Moses is there at the burning bush. The story of Moses and seventy Elders of Israel eating and drinking in the presence of God (Exodus 24:9-11) is not also found in the movie. The Bible also says that God supplied the Israelites with water, manna and quail are missing but that is also missing in the movie. In the movie, God ordered the people of Israel to go into the wilderness for 40 years as punishment for the Golden Calf incident. But in the Bible, the 40 years of wondering was punishment for their refusal to believe God would deliver the promised land to the Hebrews. Another difference I noticed was that in the Bible, it talks about how bad Moses stuttered and that his brother had to speak for him, In the movie though, Moses never stuttered and did all his own speaking in a very confident and steady voice. Also, Aaron shouldn’t be with Moses at the end of theShow MoreRelatedThe Significance of Irony1413 Words   |  6 PagesSignificance of Irony Irony is a rhetorical device used to illustrate a discordant situation or verbalization in which the outcome is opposite of what was expected.
